We are situated approximately 4km from the beach and centre of Hout Bay, in the Meadows area, up the valley off Main Rd, which leads to Constantia Nek.

The address is 23 Whittlers Way, Hout Bay 7806, Cape Town.

A short drive into town and you will find many shops & services such as banks, supermarkets, restaurants, and a great Sunday craft market. Around the Meadows area guinea fowl run wild and sunbirds drink nectar from the plants in the garden. From our house you can take a short drive to the Nek and walk up into the foothills of Table Mountain, a local beauty spot. As you walk uphill there is a great view of False Bay and the vineyards of Constantia. 10 minutes drive inland over Constantia Nek you can visit these famous historical wine farms with their Dutch Cape architecture, which have been exporting wines to the UK for centuries. Tastings usually cost around 2 pounds sterling and are very generous/varied, and the fee means you feel no pressure to buy a bottle! Many of the wine farms have excellent restaurants offering full meals or fabulous picnics.

Hout Bay itself is still a working a fishing port, and you can see boats landing their catches daily. If you wish you can take a fishing trip to try your luck. There is also a large population of cape fur seals in the area and you can take a boat ride to Seal Island to watch these lovely creatures. The beach stretches for 2 kms in a half moon shape from the port to the start of the famous Chapman’s Peak drive. This spectacular drive hugs the coast for around 8kms towards Nordhoek and is well worth the trip.

Things to do in Cape Town

Cape Town centre is just 30 minutes drive from our house along the beautiful and dramatic coastal road.

Visit the exciting V & A Waterfront with its shops, attractions, live music and other eclectic entertainment. There are regular festivals such as jazz, food & wine, and arts.

Take a ferry to the infamous Robben Island; now a museum but where Nelson Mandela was kept prisoner for 17 of his 25 year sentence. Ex political prisoners are the tour guides so you get a genuine feel for how it was to be held there in apartheid days.
Take the Cable car up Table Mountain. Make sure you go on a clear day as sometimes the mountain is covered in cloud. The views are just amazing and if you’re feeling adventurous you can abseil off the side of the mountain.
Stroll around Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens In a spectacular location on the side of Table Mountain, it’s only 10 minutes drive from us. The 528-hectare park includes 6000 species of indigenous plants. They also hold fantastic summer Sunday evening concerts to cater for all tastes.

Scarborough beach (10 minutes from Hout bay):

Go Diving, Surfing or Swimming, some of the best diving sites are in Kalk Bay and there are bathing spots along the many and beautiful beaches surrounding the area. Great surfing can be found along the coast near Hout Bay. Swimming is best kept to the Eastern seaboard around Simonstown.

Beautiful Llandudno beach:

People Watching while sipping a cocktail is an enjoyable activity at Camps Bay, whilst being a beach bum is the general activity at Clifton, Llandudno and Bantry Bay!

The drive from Hout Bay to Cape Town, via Camps Bay and Clifton:

And you should not miss the wonderful wine lands of Constantia, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franshhoek. Wine in South Africa is very good value and it’s definitely worth trying some tastings. Most places charge (usually about 2 pounds sterling) for a tasting, which is always very generous. A lot of wine farms also have great restaurants and offer picnics served in a very civilised manner in great settings.
